Dying with Dignity
Today’s podcast, The Long Goodbye, invites us into the life of Kara Tippetts, a woman with terminal cancer and eternal hope.
The producers of her documentary (being released this week), Jay and Sophia Lyons, share her courageous battle with cancer that is overshadowed by her belief that her experience goes on within God’s love and work in a broken world. This beautiful and powerful trust in God is what brought 10’s of 1,000’s to subscribe and gain encouragement from her vlog. The words of Paul in Philippians 1:21 seem to ring out, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain…”
My first question is, how ready am I? I know that sentiment, but I have prayed for it to not come true in my own life and then felt the guilt for not having a strong enough faith. At other times, I’ve had no trouble saying, whatever your will. Thankfully, we have a God of love and grace and who looks to mature us each day to be more like Jesus. It is also why being in awe of God is central to this very question. Kara was in awe of God and therefore able to put her whole life in his hands.
You have probably heard that old saying that you can’t live life until you have settled your death. The Long Goodbye reinforces that adage. Let me know your thoughts on how you are handling this in your life after you view the podcast and Kara’s documentary.
