Let Me Have My Son

Mental Health seems to have a stigma in many religious groups, including Christianity, simply blaming it on not being in a relationship with Jesus, certain sins, lack of understanding forgiveness, self-centeredness over self sacrifice, etc. Those these are all possible solutions to the problems in someone’s life, they are probably not the answers they need off the bat, and marginalizing those with these problems does nothing to help solve them. They may need specialized medical/mental health help to sort out what is going on before they can even make a response to all that Christ promises and even then, they may need continued and consistent help from a professional.

Cristobal’s son got schizophrenia at 15. Coming from a Christian family. And it has taken years for many of their prayers to be answered and see their son restored to a healthier level where he has become more able to deal with others. There are real problems like this in life that don’t need tossed to the side, rather they need empathy and help. Telling someone the gospel as the “cure” while that person is facing a true mental illness in not loving. Watch this movie for a better idea of how it can affect a family and how to grow in love for those who need our help and love.

People in real mental health need are a call for us to pick up our cross and sacrifice of ourselves to help them.
