Way back, no, further...

I love the different ways John brings home Jesus’ deity. I remember listening to a tape by Dr. Walter Martin who founded Christian Research Institute. He was in John 1 and the versus were very familiar, which meant my brain could easily run through them and move on without much thought. He read the first words, “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.”

Check, know and believe that one. Keep going Dr. Martin. But he didn’t.

His concern was for how some people interpret the passage as Jesus having a beginning. He asked people to close their eyes and think back as far as they could to what they could see as being the beginning. Then he stated that in the Greek, the emphasis is on the fact that whatever beginning you can think of, Jesus was always there forever before that.  Not created at some time way back, but forever there as the second person of the Trinity.

I never doubted that, but putting it in those terms helped me readjust my perspective on Jesus. He always has been there and always will. The Alpha and Omega. Blows my mind!
