Whole Brain Worship
What opens you up to God reaching you? What reawakens your soul? This is the challenge that we find in today’s podcast with Ben Witherington lll. We understand that true worship involves the whole self, as Paul tells us in the end of Roman’s 12.1, “…to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.” This complete giving over of ourselves to the Lord for his use is the lifestyle he wants us to follow. This type of whole brain worship brings the greatest awe we can experience and it also satisfies our deepest need of purpose.
As I considered this and Ben’s words, I had to rethink that attitude within myself as I went into corporate worship. Not just seeing it, as I have in the past, as a refueling, but another opportunity to yield myself to him in all aspects of the experience. Whether in his spoken word – letting it divide and conquer, encourage and redirect; or in prayers lifted up that allow my emotions and empathy to get involved. And, the music – allowing it to release the control of the left side of my brain to the right as I echo the sentiments and how they apply to my life. Also, the fellowship connections – allowing others to minister to me and me to them as well as reaching out to those who are new.
This week, may one of our prayers be, that we become more of the whole brained worshippers Ben speaks of.
