What’s Your Boat?
As we listen to Roz’ podcast we are challenged to recognize, what is the boat we are staying in rather than walking on the water towards Jesus.
I think of so many things that hold me back. These range from, “he couldn’t be asking me to do that, but I know someone out there who is perfect for it”, to, “I don’t have the ability to do that (ala Moses)”, or, “I’ll look like a fool”, and maybe, ”God, I’m just not ready or interested right now.”
What is our boat and why are we still in it? If Jesus could sustain Peter on the water, why can’t he sustain us. Yet, we know that answer, he can. So, what’s the problem. Many times, for me, the area that keeps me in the boat the most is the fear I’ll do what Peter did and look down. Failing horribly in front of my Lord and others.
That is why this is really a faith problem and a grace problem. Faith being the assurance of what is not seen, but not foolish faith. This is because if God has called us, he has made the way though we might not see it, we can be assured of it. I have to believe in his provision.
By grace here, I mean the acceptance that as humans we fail and what the world is looking for is how we handle it. The different way we handle it is knowing God has forgiven our mistakes and can empower us to get back up and keep moving towards him. That is unique to our world, showing that level of belief and trust.
