The power in you

The title may sound like something you would hear in one of the super hero movies coming out or a Star Wars type sci-fi adventure. "Don't you realize the power in you, Luke, Captain Marvel, Bruce?"

Yet, none of those compare to the power we have in us. The difference is where the power comes from - an impersonal force, genetic mutation, bit by a radioactive spider, and so on, or the God of the Universe.

This brings me to awe. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, we're not only forgiven and redeemed but given a new life and standing before God where we are seen as Jesus. Not only that but he gives us the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Paul prays in Ephesians 1 that the eyes of our heart may be open so we understand several things important in the Christian life. One of them being that we grasp: "...his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead..."

This power is released as we yield ourselves to Jesus, and step forward to handle whatever he is asking us to do by dependence on the Spirit that lives within us.

You and I have that awesome power inside which is unstoppable when we follow God's will or move in belief on his promises.

What a perfect time, as we head towards Pentecost (June 9th), to think about this great gift. God has given us the privilege to depend on his power to live a different kind of life. One that expresses the truth of Easter. The resurrection is real and can change who you are for the better because God gives you the power to become who you are supposed to be.

Thank God that his grace covers my mistakes. But I see a twofold purpose with that. First, as I admit those failures and let people know that God's is a gracious God.  People see his love. As I continue then to pick up and move forward they see a transforming God who is performing real miracles today and can do the same in their life.

In the movies the heroes battle to to save whomever or whatever from the baddies. And we put ourselves many times in their position thinking how cool that is. Even cooler, but infinitely more important, is the honor we have in real life to express the supernatural power of God and to partner with him in saving souls for eternity.
