Born to a Living Hope
Shelli’s favorite verse that she mentioned is 1 Peter 1.3 where we are told that we are ”: …born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” And her comparison there was that as we are born into this world and must learn to breath the air around us, in our new birth, we must breath the air around us there, which is hope.
You can feel that permeating Shelli’s life as she speaks and gets us to think about life as it will be, so we can translate that hope into our daily lives.
My mother said to me once that if my thoughts were too heavenly focused, I’d be no earthly good. I know what she meant. There are plenty of people who have talked of heavenly things and feel there is no longer any need to engage in this world. But that is not the will of our Savior. His goal is that we live in the hope of what is to come because we know he is true to his promises.
Believing in this truly does have an effect on us and is one that others will notice. The Apostle John gives us this promise in 1 John 3.3: “All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.” Not perfect, but being purified. Wow, what a promise to grab hold of!
