Paul wrote: ““Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other” (1 Corinthians 4:6)

This is a heads up. Our tendency is to toe dangle or go further beyond what is written, even applying to goals that are good but not the way God' desires.

Church People brings that out and though it goes to an extreme example it makes its point very strongly and warns us how we can go from small steps to larger ones in exceeding what is written to reach goals in ways we were never intended to do.
