The Power of God's Word in Conversion - Lily Meschi
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) Reads - “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Just by watching the end of a movie on Jesus and hearing 2 verses from scripture before she left her mom’s house had Lily blurting out, “Jesus is my Lord and Savior!” No previous reason, nor any deliberate evangelizing path taken by her mom’s friends. She has no idea how those words came across her lips.
This was a forceful reminder for me that it is not about us and our persuasive abilities, though helpful, nor taken someone down a certain structured path, though possibly useful for some. It’s about the power of God’s word. ! Corinthians 1.18 (ESV) says, “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” I am hoping we all can see this as a reason to relax and trust God, rather than feel we need to be an expert apologist. God does call us to study and become approved, and we should. But Lily’s example served as a reminder to me, the bottom line comes from the power of the gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit.
