The Mulligan

Who doesn’t like second chances? Thirds? Fifth? Ad finitum?

21 “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’ 22 Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. ‘“(Matthew 18, NIV)

Thankfully, God’s view is a lifetime of forgiveness. Not that we are to take advantage of his generosity, but we are to live knowing failure is in our nature just as forgiveness is in God’s. And God uses His forgiveness for our motivation to keep going.

The Mulligan brings this point to a head in a relatable way. As in golf, where friends give you an extra tee shot, because you duffed the first one, God gives multiple do-overs to helps us move forward. Thank you Lord for your grace! And Pat Boone as the Old Pro, does a great job mentoring Eric Close’s character through process of understanding how those Mulligan’s apply to us in our daily lives, not just golf.

Have you fallen down like I have and thought God’s was done with you? Nope. He is there waiting to pick you up every time, ad infinitum, regardless of success but as a matter of His Love. Keep swinging!
