MEANWHILE: Meeting God in the Wait
“18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”[b] 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22 This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” (NIV)
Oh the dreaded waiting place or as Carol refers to it, the MEANWHILE. We feel lost. We may think God has abandoned us or that we’ve been put on the shelf. Yet, when Abraham considered that God was going to make him the Father of many nations but he was 100 and Sarah was barren, he chose to allow his faith to be strengthened and not stymied. He could of tossed in the towel (thinking of myself here) and given up.
A couple of things jump out at me concerning Abraham’s attitude. He took an honest assessment. Too old for kids, wife can’t have children.
Then he assessed the promise. God will make me the Father of many nations. And then he took into account, who gave him that promise - he gave glory to God.
What place are you in right now that seems like the waiting place? Without sugar coating or over dramatizing, (no, i would never do either),assess what you are facing.
Now, search the Bible for any of God’s promises that fit your situation and let God know you are going to hang onto those promises and humbly credit him for any results which may not even look like ones you thought fit.
Carol’s dive into Joseph shows us that what comes next may not be what we thought, but ultimately, God will use it for good in your life. And as the saying goes, it will be worth your WAIT or worth the MEANWHILE.
